I have recently been informed about a new initiative called The Brilliant Club. This is a non-profit organisation that recruits, trains and pays PhD students to deliver programmes of university-style tutorials to small groups of high performing pupils aged 14-18 who attend schools in low-participation areas and are from low income backgrounds.

If you feel strongly about widening participation at university and would like to improve your teaching skills with pupils aged 14-18 year then let me know by email (t.j.bussoli@qmul.ac.uk). If I get enough responses there may be scope to invite the founder of the company to talk about the scheme and how it works in more detail.
