The following vacancy arrived in my in-box today. I thought that it might suit some PhDs or PostDocs looking for a new career!

Careers Adviser for Research Staff (Maternity Cover), University of Cambridge

Salary: £36,715 – £46,510 pa

The Schools of Physical Sciences and Technology at Cambridge University are looking for someone with a strong interest in people and their futures to work as a Careers Adviser, supporting their research staff. The successful candidate will be based in the University Careers Service, working mainly with departments in the two Schools to deliver career management activities on a one-to-one basis, through facilitating workshops and running larger events.

Applicants should be graduates, preferably with a Physical Science or Technology background. Postgraduate experience and qualifications to doctoral level would be useful.  Essential personal qualities include enthusiasm, curiosity, objectivity, stamina and the ability to switch tasks frequently.  Above all, the postholder will need to be outgoing, to like people, and to be able to work under pressure, both independently and in a group.  Professional training courses are available

Appointment will be full-time (37 hours a week) for a fixed-term from 22nd November 2010,or as soon as possible thereafter, to 30th September 2011.
